Movie Mondays: World War Z

My sister and I watched this movie weeks ago but with everything seeming to move at super speed recently, I haven't been able to document my thoughts on said movie yet. And for me, that is just plain awful.

When my sister, Mona, and I decided to watch this movie I did not know what to expect as per usual. I was completely blown away by this movie...I think. It has been that long lol. It all seemed a bit too realistic to me, I think, which made it all that more believable. I cannot say I am a big Brad Pitt fan as I have not watched that many films with him in it but what I can say is this- he is kind of a great actor. The movie did not have any other "mainstream actors" in it (well at least none of the actors I know) which made me love it even more.

New portrayals of emotions.
It was refreshing.

For those of you haven't seen it yet, it is a film about how the world deals with a disease that rapidly latches onto a host, mutates and has a one-track mind to rid the world of humanity as we know it. It was based on the book 'World War Z' which was written by Max Brooks and . And the movie adaptation of the book was directed by Marc Foster (Quantum of Solace; Monster's Ball; Finding Neverland) and transformed into a script by Matthew M. Carnahan (State of Play; The Kingdom), Drew Goddard (Lost; Alias; Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and Damon Lindelof (Star Trek Into Darkness; Lost; Prometheus).

The cast was really good in my humble opinion. The movie was riddled with moments that I could totally see myself in if were to be in their situations. There were times when I cried out in outrage/frustration because of the actions of some characters (the daughter in the building and/or car - what on earth was going through her mind???) but I had to admit that I would have probably done the same lol. Brad Pitt (Flight Club; Inglorious Basterds; Troy) took on the role of  Gerry Lane, a man who works for the UN and is an expert in handling dire situations. His lovable wife, Karin was played by Mireille Enos (The Killing; Big Love; Gangster Squad). A friend of Gerry's, Thierry (the Deputy General-Secretary), was played by Fana Mokoena (Hotel Rwanda; Safe House) and Daniella Kertesz acted as a valiant soldier that totally gained my respect for holding her own in a field that is primarily dominated by men. These are just a few of the characters that made an impact on me. I might try to get my hands on a copy of the book as I can only imagine how this story was told. Horror is not a genre I like...at all but the idea of this story on paper is intriguing.
