SPOTLIGHT: VOICES BEYOND || MUSIC

Spotlight is a series that shines a mini light on whatever I feel like discussing and sharing with you and today that is  Voices Beyond.  Back in November, I attended a friend's baby shower and by the end of the night I got to know one of the organisers, Tosin a little better. It was there that I found out that she was part of a gospel group called Voices Beyond. Fast forward a couple weeks I got sent a link to their EP and that is what I would to talk about today. I am not going to lie, if you took hold of my iPod right now, Gospel music maybe... maybe(!) makes up 5% of the songs on there. I love my AdeleDestiny's Child and Beyoncé and even my Katy BEllie Goulding and Gavin DeGraw. As for Gospel music, I only have a handful of songs that whisk me away to a quiet, peaceful and serene place quicker than the time it takes for me to put the kettle on or roll out my yoga mat. I'm not quite sure why that is but I am eager to broaden my collection of gospel music after sampling what Voices Beyond has to offer.

Comprising of musicians and singers who create original gospel songs and perform across the UK, Voices Beyond are a Manchester-based collective who have been together since March 2013 and their mission is for their music to touch and inspire all who listen. And after listening to their EP, A.W.E (Authentic Worship Everyday) which was released last November, on repeat I must say I do rather like their toe-taping, head-swaying sound which is a fusion of Gospel, Jazz, R&B and Motown.

Of the four songs that make up A.W.E. 'Worship' has to be my favourite by far. I love the tempo and the harmonising; it reminds me of the more soulful R&B songs littered across my music library so it is slowly worming its way up my 'Most Played' list. And the story this particular song shares is something that I could relate to as it is about the daily struggles we sometimes have with discovering who we are (and what we were born to do) and with remembering the powerful act of worshipping Him. I feel like I am not doing the song enough justice as describing the effect songs have on me is new territory for me, however, I thought I would let you guys in on this the best way I know how and let you decide if this EP will be making its way into your music library. If you'd like to know more about Voices Beyond you can find them on good ol'Facebook and Twitter.
