THE TV EDIT: SCORPION

Ever watched something that held your attention long enough for you to finish a 22 episode worth season in two days? I have. And the latest TV show to guide me through its world with ridiculous ease is Scorpion. For a while now I have somewhat struggled with coming on here to share my thoughts about films and TV shows I have watched - and I have watched plenty - but last weekend, I came across this show on Netflix thanks to my dad's recommendation and I was yanked swiftly out my weird funk by the interesting, funny and new characters I have come to know so well.

Scorpion is an American TV show that is based on the life of Walter O'Brien, an Irish business man whose achievements and claims - it has been said he has an IQ of 197... - have been met with great suspicion from many, and his technology consultancy company, Scorpion.  Created by Nick Santora (Breakout Kings), who has written teleplays for shows like Prison BreakThe GuardianLaw & Order, Scorpion aired for the first time back in September, 2014 and boasts of having 2 seasons under its belt.  I do not confess to be a proficient mathematician, behaviourist, mechanical engineer or hacker so I cannot say confidently that all the scenarios, scribbles on blackboards, suggested solutions to problems posed and lines of codes that populate this TV show are plausible and/or correct but, at this point in time, the potential flaws are not preventing me from enjoying the show one bit.

I am currently watching this show again (I know, I know) because I feel like I did not notice as much as I could have when I watched it the first time round and once I am finished with season 1 I know I will be re-watching Numb3rs. Who remembers that show? I absolutely LOVE it and Scorpion kinda reminds me of that; where Numb3rs comes across as being more realistic, Scorpion (in my opinion) balances their more "out-there" concepts with realistic ones quite nicely.

With regards to characters I love them all. The cast for this show have blown me away; their characters found a place in my heart rather quickly and the chemistry between them is undeniable. Walter O'Brien, a confident, straight-to-the-point and protective man, is played by Elyes Gabel (Spooks: The Greater GoodBody of ProofGame of Thrones). Bad ass Happy Quinn who is not afraid to speak her mind, a loyal friend, honest and knows a thing or two about physics is played by Jadyn Wong (DebugCosmopolisBeing Erica). Ari Stidham (Con ManThe Crazy OnesHuge) takes on the role of Sylvester Dodd who is loveable, fantastic with numbers and driven while  Katherine McPhee (SmashYou May Not Kiss the BrideThe House Bunny) stars as Paige Dineen, a patient, brave, kind and warm woman who is also the mother of young, amazing boy-genius Ralph played by Riley B. Smith (The Back-Up Plan). Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Dad!'Til DeathAmerican Pie) plays the charismatic Toby Curtis who is faithful, has an affinity for taking risks and handy when it comes lightening the mood while Robert Patrick (True BloodThe UnitWalk the Line) stars as Cabe Gallo, a highly skilled Homeland agent who is a valuable and valued asset for team Scorpion. And Megan O'Brien, one of my favourite characters, is a bright, funny and strong woman whose smile can light up a room and is played by Camille Guaty (HappylandCakeLas Vegas). I enjoy the witty and unique banter between them all, love the pace of the characters' developments and cannot wait for season 2 to drop on this side of the pond.

Basically, what I am trying to say is that I think you should give this TV show a chance if you are in the mood for action, drama, humour and brain teasers. There is a possibility you may not like as much as I do and that is okay but at least it is a new world for you discover and make of it as you will. And once you do watch Scorpion, let me know what you think of it.
