LIFE EDIT: THE MORNING COMMUTE

It pains me to see that I have left the space for as long as I have. Since coming back from Portugal last week (more on that soon), I have felt like a single water molecule going against the current in a stream of water running along the pavement towards nearby gutters. I know that is a rather somewhat churning analogy but it seems fitting...today. Anyway, on my way to work this morning I was overcome with the urge to write. Anything. Something. And so I did. And have decided to share what I wrote on here with you today. I hope you are well my friends...

THE MORNING COMMUTE

I stood on the platform awaiting my ride to take me on one last trip to work for the week; the rain drops lightly kissing my face and my cold, exposed hands, the wind gently and not-so-gently nudging me along the wet path into the unsuspecting arms of another.

My mind, not at all at ease, wandered across terrains of ideas and hopes and dreams and finally the mountain of doom and doubt. It was upon that old infallible rock that it decided to set camp and rest awhile. Not yet 8 o'clock in the morning and I am already thinking of the moment I go down to reception to make note of the last time exit the premises for the week.

Now in the train, head hung low, aware of the other warm blooded bodies that are accompanying me this morning madly punching away on their phones - probably their own way of standing up for their right to be entertained, to learn something new, to connect with their loved ones on their own terms before they to hide behind desks in institutions that give them a way to make ends  meet.

We come to a juddering stop and stumble out of this particular train once it opens its doors. There are no ticket masters in sight which leads me to sigh a sigh of relief as we all freely roam the station. As I step outside the rain greets me with a cold shoulder. I allow it to caress my hair though, the coolness of its touch soothing my nerves. I push through the doors of the building I will be spending the next 7.5 hours in and punch in the code to gain access to the lair within which my desk resides.

Beep

Beep

Beep

Beep

Those four digits see to it the door handle relaxes under my grip. I climb the stairs to find the office mostly empty. I sit at my desk, close my eyes and allow myself these few moments of peace before the room gets crowded and the emails come flying through and the tea bags run amok.

Ah, now where did my mug go?

It feels good to come on here again. I have much to say and much to learn and cannot wait to familiarise myself with my corner of the internet. I know it has only been two weeks but it has felt close to an eternity. Well, not really but you know what I mean. I am slowly making my way through unread blog posts and books and TV shows and films; slipping on my ever dependable 'I'm an avid fan of stories' robe and plugging back into the world.  I really do hope you've all had a great week and if I don't come on here in time:

Happy Halloween!
