MOVIE MONDAYS: IDENTITY THIEF
On the eve of an eventful day that consisted of exploring of one of the many cities in Holland -kinda mistakenly deleted my pictures from this trip so if and when I retrieve them, I shall finally share what I got up to over there -, my friends (Asima, Uzma and Della) and I decided to watch a film to wind down. Initially, we chose The Hobbit as two of them hadn't seen it yet. And for those of you who have been reading this blog for a while will know a sliver of how much I love that series (An Unexpected Journey & The Desolation of Smaug) so I had no problems watching it again. But after a while I could tell they were not so hot on it so Uzma and I went back to the drawing board, raided the impressive movie collection that was at our disposal and stumbled upon Identity Thief. Uzma had ready seen it and swore we would all love it - she was not wrong.

As far as comedies go, this is definitely one that should be loved by all. The comical and sorta realistic screenplay, written by Craig Mazin (Hangover III; Hangover II; Scream 4) and Jerry Eesten (The Watchman), was brought to life under the direction of Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses; Parks and Recreation; Four Christmases).
Identity Thief is about family man Sandy Patterson, played by Jason Bateman (Arrested Development; Horrible Bosses; State of Play), who does his best to follow the rules and a woman who goes by many names, played by Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly; Samantha Who?; Gilmore Girls), and does her best not to conform to societal norms and instead chooses to exploit the loop holes that she has found in the game we call life. Although I do class this as a comedy, I must add that there is a softer and more serious side to the film as well that makes it that much better in my opinion.
Now, I don't know what it is about Melissa McCarthy but she is one funny and talented lady. She managed to bring both the crazy and vulnerable side to her character in equal measure which I really liked. And the chemistry between her and Jason Bateman is so good in this film, they literally had me in stitches. I mean, I know the scriptwriters came up with the concept and lines but Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy's delivery of the lines were on point.

So, if you are in the mood for a movie that is sure to tickle you silly amongst the drama that unfolds then this is a film you should consider.
What film have you seen lately?
