MOVIE MONDAYS: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2
Last Friday was in fact a Good Friday. The sun was out, it was my friend's birthday (I love birthdays!), it was a Bank Holiday which meant I had the day off which is always a great thing, I had baked a yummy lemon drizzle cake aaaaand it was the day I had set aside to go see The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I had planned to catch the 11.30 am showing to avoid the crowds but it seemed quite a few people had the same idea. Luckily for me, the theatre wasn't crazy full in the end. But enough of my ramblings, let me get on with sharing some of my thoughts on the film!

I am not quite sure I am able to express how much I loved this film without coming across as a bit crazy. The Amazing Spider-Man was the first movie related post I felt compelled to share on this little slice of the internet I own. And what I wrote there could easily still describe my thoughts on this film. In my opinion, this film was spectacular (!) and might very well be my favourite movie of 2014 but, we'll see what other gems are released this year before I bestow The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with that title. Every aspect of this Marvel movie got top marks from me- the soundtrack, the acting, the wardrobe, the special effects, the lines - as I was thoroughly entertained every minute I spent watching it. And I did not make the same mistake I made when I saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier; I fished out my The Amazing Spider-Man dvd and refreshed my memory so that I wasn't asking my sister who Peter Parker was haha. Ok, I highly doubt I would have asked that, I am not that bad. Having said that though, watching the first film did help loads as it made me realise that this film answered all the questions The Amazing Spider-Man left me with back in 2012 which was another big tick from me.

Mark Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man; (500) Days of Summer) and his magical vision stayed on this franchise train and directed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 whilst the electrically engaging script was put together by a team of people - Alex Kruztman (Fringe; Sleepy Hallow; Hawaii Five-0), Robert Orci (Fringe; Sleepy Hallow; Transformers) and Jeff Pinker (Fringe; Lost; Alias). I must admit there were a few moments where it seemed they were trying a bit too hard to be funny but I don't mind that. To me there was a perfect balance of humorous, action-packed and heart-wrenching scenes that did not give my concentration a chance to waiver.
There is no denying the great chemistry between the cast as they individually and collectively did an amazing job me thinks. I am not going to spend much talking about them as I could literally be here for several posts to come - I wonder if there is a limit on the length of posts on Blogger...hmm... So, for the benefit of those who have not watched the film I will do a brief run through of some of the characters that have a special place in my heart. Andrew Garfield (Never Let Me Go; The Social Network; Boy A) reprised his role as the witty, sensitive, smart and big-hearted Peter Parker. Emma Stone (Gangster Squad; The Help; Easy A) also reprised her role as the determined, intelligent, beautiful and stubborn Gwen Stacy. How fashionable was Gwen in this film?? I really need the mint coat as well as the yellow one in my wardrobe pronto!! If only I could interview the entire costume department for this project... . The role of strong, loving and patient Aunt May was brought to life again by the lovely Sally Field (Lincoln; Brothers & Sisters; Forrest Gump) whom I adore; I think she is a flippin' great actress! And the main villian this time round was Electro. What an electrifying character he was - was that a really bad joke? In a bid to not ruin the movie for those who have not watched it I shall not mention any other new characters so that you can be pleasantly surprised by their introductions like I was.

And in summary, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a captivating movie that will please all lovers of movies as there is something for everyone. If you are struggling to decide on something to see at the cinema I don't think this is a bad choice. It may not make your top 5 but it sure to put a smile on your face, steal a gasp from your lips and raise your heart rate a little.
