MOVIE MONDAYS: ELYSIUM

I am not a huge Matt Damon fan but that is more due to the fact that I haven't really watched that many films with him in it than me not liking his work. I decided to see this movie to see if I could change that. The fact that Jodie Foster was in the film was an added bonus as she is another actor whose work I am not wholly familiar with. Again, I watched this a couple of weeks ago but I thought I would update my blog regardless of how late I am at writing this post.

So, onto the movie:

What can I say about Elysium?

It is different. It is another film that questions the road down which our humanity is heading. It highlights the parallel worlds of the rich and the unfortunate and leaves us wondering what would happen if the two worlds should collide. I was left asking myself- 'Should the divide be as big as it is?'. It is set in the a distant future where a man-made safe haven (Elysium) that resides in space is inhabited with the wealthiest of people and the rest of man-kind is trying to survive down here on earth. The film explores the possibility of bridging the gap between the two sets of people.

Matt Damon (We Bought A Zoo; The Bourne Identity; Good Will Hunting) takes on the role of Max- a man with a coloured past who has always wondered what life would be like in Elysium. Jodie Foster (FlightPlan; Panic Room; Anna and The King) acts as the "faultless"Secretary of Defense, Ms. Delacourt, who has nothing but the best interests of people of upper class at heart.

More Info: This 2013 movie was written and directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9).

To be honest, I am glad I went to go see it. Matt Damon did not disappoint me. Jodie Foster's performance and style in this film was really good. And for a woman who is not as privileged as those in Elysium, Frey (played by Alice Braga) has really good skin and amazing hair. Two things I seriously need to work on lol.

If someone had described the movie to me I doubt I would have leapt up from my seat to go catch the next available viewing. But having said that, I know my curiosity would have gotten the better of me and I would have eventually watched it. So, as always, if you are looking for a movie to watch and you cannot make up your mind, Elysium is not a bad choice.

One day I am sure I will post a review about a movie that I do not like....

Till next time!
