BOOK: NEVER LET ME GO
Well....
My book of the moment is the amazing - Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.
This was bought by my siblings for my birthday mostly because the movie adaptation of the story is one of my favourite movies (might do a post about it... :D). It took me a while to get past the couple of pages. Not because it was hard to...get into the story, no, it was because I kept on replaying the movie in my head. That movie makes me cry every time I watch it. Yes, I am a bit of a weeper lol. But I am glad I soldiered on.
It was so oddly written.
What I mean is, it was written in such a manner that it seemed to be an exact account of how a person thinks; in this case, it was dear Kathy H. You know how when you tell a story to someone or you are having a conversation with someone and you start of by talking about the subject matter and then halfway through you veer off on a tangent, realise this fact and then go back to talking about the subject matter? Yeah, well this is exactly how the Kathy's monologues were.
The reason why I am so moved by this story, be it the book or the movie, is because I literally thought that us, as human beings, were capable of deciding to embark on this cruel and dark path to a find quick-fix to a problem . I mean, to be totally honest this is not the first time someone has thought up this scenario:
The movie, The Island (starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson) which is funny as the movie came out in the same year this book was published- 2005.
But what sets this book apart from other same-themed stories is how real it seems; like it is the account of true events.
And what I mean by that is Kathy H seems to be as real as I am. It is that believable. It may be because Kazuo doesn't delve into great detail of the how's and why's of Hailsham's existence; rather, he takes you on a journey into the complexities of friendships, relationships and the state of our humanity. It is a more...emotional book than a scientific one. I absolutely love it!
If you are looking for a book to read this is definitely one your hands should be reaching for. I hope I haven't given too much away for those of you who have not read the book or watched the movie.
Till next time!
Luv, Mo
