THE YOUNG VICTORIA
Yes, yes, I know I am meant to be revising but there are times when understanding the mechanisms of mass transfer during the adsorption of a adsorbate onto an adsorbent becomes slightly boring. Having several nice breaks whilst revising allows me to fully engage my mind at semi-full capacity...lol. Anyway -
Back to the movie:
For those of you who have not watched it, I'll give you a short summary that doesn't ruin the movie but tells you a little bit about it- Its a movie about the early years of Queen Victoria's reign. It was directed by Jean-Marc Vallee (Cafe de Flore) and written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey).
I did tell you it would be short lol. I do not like when someone tries to tell me about a book or movie or TV show and basically tells me the whole plot. That's why I hardly ever watch trailers anymore. I decide to watch a movie based on its poster, director, screenwriter, actors, actresses and/or any blurbs about it i.e. no more than one or two lines summarising the plot. Same goes for TV shows and books. I don't want my mind racing ahead of the scene/page I am currently focused on as I tend to formulate my own potential storyline. And if I turn out to be right, I get very disappointed even though it might be a perfect set of events.
It may seem like I am quite slow when it comes to watching movies as this one came out in 2009. But it depends if uni is being too stressful and I do not have the opportunity to watch the movie as soon as it comes out thereby forgetting about it until someone mentions it again. In this case, Someone happened to be BBC 2 as they were showing it last night. I adore period dramas and always will. I found it to be a beautiful story about a bit of rebellion, love and self-actualisation. If you are like me when you watch it you may find yourself saying the following statements several times- " What?!", "Are you blind???", "Jeez!" and "Aww! I am in love with this man".
Obviously, there are many characters in the movie- Queen Victoria (Emily Blunt), the Duchess of Kent (Miranda Richardson), Queen Adelaide (Harriet Walters), Prince Albert (Rupert Friend), Lord Melbourne (Paul Bettany), Baroness Lehzen (Jeanette Hain) and many more- but my favourite characters have to be Victoria and Albert...or maybe just Albert...I am not quite sure :D
Emily Blunt, one of my favourite actresses, portrayed Queen Victoria in a way that made her seem like a normal teenage girl- youthful, passionate, caring, stubborn at times and itching for moments to prove that she is not as dumb or naive as people may think she is- which is one of the main things I loved about the movie. Rupert Friend portrayed Prince Albert in such a way that I have ended up wanting my very own. He happens to always makes me say- "Omd! Orlando Bloom is in this?!" but alas, it is good ol' Rupert. He was amazing in my opinion. Prince Albert seemed to be sensitive, loving, patient and overall a true gentleman.
I hope I have not given too much of the story away as I know some people are not like me and want to know what they are getting themselves into lol. So, if you have not watched this movie I urge you to give it a go as I am very glad I did. Even if period dramas aren't your thing, just give it a chance. It is full of awkward moments, little jokes here and there, a bit of action (emphasis on a bit lol) and romance. Ok, I am off to find out more about transport phenomena involving intraparticle mass transfer. In the words of Penny from the show-Miranda, "Such fun!".
