TURNING POINT

I've never been one to enjoy discussing anything political. However, this year brought with it a number of moments within the political realms of the world that emanated a detectable shift in the perspective of  many. One notable moment was Brexit - a decision that I am not at all happy with but willing more than ever to understand  what the consequences could unearth - and another the results of the US' 2016 Presidential Election - just wow.

I don't know about you but I have to say this year in particular, when it comes to politics, has been quite the turning point for me. The power of the voice of the masses; the general apathy towards actual, verified facts; the almost lack of trust between the public, media and the governmental institutions; voting and its importance; the views on feminism; and the growing need to understand and respect each another and our respective, dynamic opinions are but a handful of things that have demanded my attention and patience. I confess that I do not know as much as I should but I am slowly beginning to change that by reading wider, listening more and questioning frequently. I came across a rather interesting episode of Malcom Gladwell's podcast (see video above) on Meg Fee's wonderful blog and one of the many quotes that struck me was 'Sometimes the past deserves a second chance'. History offers so much that admittedly sometimes it can be a little daunting to just jump in have a little look see but there is one thing no one can deny: we still have so much to learn.

It is easy to turn a blind eye and continue doing you and ensuring at least your corner of this planet is able to thrive with cards handed to you. It is also easier than ever before to question and figure out for yourself what's going on in the world and stand up for what you believe in based on your understanding of everything you have researched. Mistakes are made, victories are had and lessons are learnt. This is all part of life. I guess the question is: how will you take steps to ensure that you, those you love and your neighbours exist in a place where love, respect & honour for each other is indisputable every day?

But enough with all the seriousness for a second. If you haven't seen this already, please feast your eyes and ears on the comedy sketch above that did not fail to tickle me silly. Seriously, Benedict's voice though! Even if he lent his voice for an audio book about the mysterious relationship between sardines and peardrops, I think I'd buy it.
